Carving a Niche Corner for Indian Knowledge System (IKS) on 17.12.2024

Objective:

  • To collect preserve and showcase various material related to the Indian Knowledge System (IKS), such as ancient texts, manuscripts, research papers and contemporary works.
  • To spread knowledge and awareness of the Indian Knowledge System by collecting and preserving relevant materials.

Outcome:

  • To provide a general introduction to the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) and raise awareness about the contributions made by ancient Indians in the field of science, philosophy, linguistics, economics, architecture and related applications and concepts.

Report:

The Library, in collaboration with the Indian Knowledge Systems Cell (IKSC) of Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College organised a programme titled “Carving a Niche Corner for Indian Knowledge System (IKS)” on 17th December 2024. The session commenced with the welcome address by Dr.V.Sowmyanarayanan, Convener of IKSC. 
Dr.S.Santhosh Baboo, the Principal, delivered the inaugural address where he highlighted India’s rich intellectual heritage with an emphasis on its contributions to several fields like Astronomy, Medicine, Geology, and Architecture by referring to the enduring Kallanai (Rock Dam) and the Tanjore Big Temple as illustrations. He urged the students to explore the invaluable IKS resources to deepen their knowledge and understanding through their active involvement with the IKSC and the library. Dr.M.Mani, the Librarian, extended the vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of Dr.D.Uthra, Head of the Department of Physics, in curating the books pertinent to IKS.
