Essay Writing Competition on Social Media and the Youth Today on 29.08.2022



Outcome:

The Essay Writing competition was organized to encourage the creativity and leadership skills of the students. The competition articulates the competency to conceive promptly, write persuasively and present well-connected ideas while presenting well-connected ideas in a compact fashion. A good writing style will be the key distinguishing element in determining the winners.

Report:
Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College, Library & NDLI Club organized and conducted an Essay Writing Competition on Social Media and the Youth Today on 29-08-2022 at 02.30 pm in DDGDVC Library. The competition was conducted for the NDLI Club Members of DDGDVC. 46 participants took part in the essay writing competition and the top three essays were selected. The winners were awarded with prizes and mementos. All the other participants were given participation certificates.

National Level NCC: E-QUIZ on 27.08.2022


Event Outcome:
Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College, Library & NCC organized National Level NCC: E-Quiz on 27.08.2022(Saturday) at 10.00 am to 12.00 pm for NCC fraternity. Google online quiz form was created and shared among the NCC fraternity 283 participants participated. 196 participants eligible for Certificate.

Report: 
The quiz was conducted to enhance the knowledge of NCC fraternity and create awareness on various aspects of National Cadet Corps.

Dr.S.R.Ranganathan Birthday Celebration 12.08.2022

National Librarians Day Celebration on 12.08.2022.

The Library conducted a 130th Birth Anniversary of Padmashri Prof.Dr.Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan (Father of Library Science in India) and National Librarians Day Celebration on 12.08.2022. The programme focused on the aspects and significance of reading books to improve the abilities of the students. The welcome address was delivered by Ms.C. Premakumari, Assistant Librarian. The presidential address was delivered by Dr.S.Santhosh Baboo, Principal. Mr.J.Praveen Prabhu, Assistant Professor and Head i/c, P.G. Department of English, DDGDVC, was the guest speaker. The oath on the prominence of reading was taken by the students. The keynote address was given by Dr.M.Mani, Librarian and the vote of thanks was given Mrs.J.Sangeetha, Assistant Librarian. The main objective of the programme was to enable students to gain a wide knowledge on the importance of reading through books, journals and magazines. The programme concluded with a question and answer session. The programme was highly informative and interactive.

Outcomes of the Programme
Students gained an understanding of the importance of reading as well  as the utilization of the library.

Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College Library in collaboration with Society for the Advancement of Library and Information Science (SALIS) organized a one-day state level Library Professional Development Programme (LPDP) on “Transforming Library Professionals with 21st Century Skills” on 4.08.2022.The LPDP was aimed to enhance the knowledge of the Library professionals on the various Online ICT tools to deliver the services to their users effectively and increase the usage of the resources cost effectively. 60 (49+11) Library professionals from all over Tamil Nadu participated in the sessions.

Dr.S.Santhosh Baboo, Principal, DDGD Vaishnav College, Chennai delivered the presidential address. Shri Ashok Kumar Mundhra, Secretary, DDGD Vaishnav College, Chennai gave the felicitation address. The Inaugural address was delivered by Dr.S.Manikandan, Librarian and Information Assistant Grade-I, Anna Centenary Library, Chennai.  The keynote address was delivered by Dr.V.Sakthi Rekha, Librarian, Madras School of Social Work, Chennai & Advisor, SALIS Chennai Chapter. Ms.D.Abirami, Assistant Librarian, DDGDVC welcomed the gathering. Principal and Secretary Honored the Resource persons and speakers. The First participant who came for the programme was also honored with the gift. The session started with the Introduction of the resources persons Dr.K.Ramasamy, College Librarian, M.V.Muthiah Governement Arts College for Women, Dindigul by Ms.C.Premakumari, Assistant Librarian, DDGDVC and Dr.T.Augustine Arul Prasad, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, IQAC Co-Coordinator, DDGD Vaishnav College was Introduced by Ms.J.Sangeetha, Assistant Librarian, DDGDVC. Dr.B.Srilakshmi, Member-SALIS, Master of Ceremony started the session by asking the participantsto self-introduce and handed over the session to Resource Person Dr.K.Ramasamy.

Sessions I & II : “Use of Free online tools for transforming the transitional libraries insightful examen of free online tools for transforming libraries” by Dr.K.Ramasamy, He shared his knowledge on the various free online tools to the library science professionals which they can use in developing their libraries and enhance the usage of the resources cost effectively. Ramasamy also explained on how to find out authenticity of the free tools.

The post lunch session began with an activity of creating innovative butterfly. The butterfly stencils were given to the participants and were asked to shade them by using tools which are available in their hand and the best innovative butterfly was awarded. A group photo session was also organized.

Sessions III & IV: “Exploring emerging ICT tools for teaching learning process” by Dr.T.Augustine Arul Prasad, who highlighted the various ICT tools which can be used in our day to day life. He gave an insight to the emerging technologies that can be used in the Library field to reach Library users in this pandemic situation.

Session V: Panel Discussion “Skills for the Twenty first Century Librarians” by Dr.K.Ramasamy, College Librarian, M.V.Muthiah Governement Arts College for Women, Dindigul, Dr.T.Augustine Arul Prasad, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, IQAC Co-Coordinator, DDGD Vaishnav College and Mrs.T.Sujatha Rammohan, Manager (Ex) British High Commission, British Council Chennai & Librarian, Shift-II(Retd), DDGD Vaishnav College, Chennai discussed on various skills required to deliver services to the users by the librarians.

The programme ended with the valedictory function. Mr.D.Rajiniganth, Library Assistant, DDGDVC, delivered the welcome address. Dr.S.Santhosh Baboo, Principal delivered the valedictory address. Shri.Ashok Kumar Mundhra, Secretary gave the felicitation address. Keynote address delivered by Dr.K.Ramasamy. The session ended with the feedback and distribution of certificates to the participants. The Organic pest control powder prepared by the DDGDVC Library (In House) were distributed to the participants to create awareness of protecting books from pest. Dr.M.Mani, Librarian, DDGD Vaishnav College proposed the Vote of Thanks. The entire programme was organized by the DDGDVC organizing committee, Library Team and SALIS.
