Tamil Literature Crossword Competition 31.08.2023

 


Objective:
To initiate interest in Tamil literature.

Outcome:
Enhancing the regional language knowledge among the students.

Report:
Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College, Library & NDLI Club organized and conducted a competition on “Tamil Literature Crossword Competition” on 31.08.2023 at 10.00 am in DDGDVC Library. The competition was conducted for the NDLI Club Members of DDGDVC. The competition was judged by Dr.K.R.Latha, Head i/c Department of Tamil (Shift II) and Dr.M.Ezhumalai, Assistant Professor, Department of Tamil Literature DDGD Vaishnav College. The gathering was welcomed by Dr. P. Suresh, NDLI Club President and Assistant Professor, Department of English (Shift I), DDGDVC. All the students performed well and it was highly appreciated by our judges. They enlightened the participants on the importance of reading and gathering the knowledge on Tamil literature for future generations. In total, One Hundred and One students participated in the competition and the top three participants were awarded. All the participants were given participation certificates.

Introduction:
The State Level Seminar on “Enhancing 21st Century Skills for Library Professionals” was held on 17.08.2023 at 9.00 am. The event aimed to provide insights and strategies for library professionals to adapt and thrive in the rapidly evolving digital landscape, equipping them with the necessary skills to effectively serve their patrons and institutions.

Key Objectives:

The seminar focused on the following key objectives:

  • Recognizing the importance of 21st century skills in the library profession.
  • Understanding the impact of technology on libraries and information management.
  • Exploring strategies to enhance digital literacy and information literacy among library users.
  • Promoting collaboration and networking among library professionals to share best practices.

Sessions and Highlights:

Inaugural Address: The seminar commenced with a special address by Dr.S.Santhosh Baboo, Principal and inaugural address by Dr.V.Chandrakumar, Professor and Head, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Mdaras, Chennai, emphasising the need for continuous learning and upskilling in the library profession to meet the demands of the digital age.

Keynote Presentation: Dr.Prabha Rajagopalan delivered an insightful presentation on the role of 21st century skills in transforming library services. She discussed the importance of adaptability, critical thinking, and technological proficiency for modern librarians.

The keynote speaker Dr.K.K.Lakshmi emphasised the critical role that library plays in the digital era and delved into the importance of the responsibility to adapt innovate and equip with the necessary skills to guide our students through this era of information abundance. 

Margadarshan: Accomplished library professionals shared their success stories and innovative initiatives aimed at enhancing user experiences and promoting lifelong learning. Prizes for margadarshan awarded by Mr.Srinivasa Gopalan, Superintendent, DDGDVC to the following winners
  • Mr.V.Radhakrishnan, Librarian, T.S.Srinivasan Centre for Polytechnic College And Advanced Training , Chennai.
  • Mrs.Y.Archana, Librarian, MOP Vaishnav College for Women, Chennai.
  • Mr.P.Panneer Selvam, Librarian, Vidya Mandir Matric Higher Secondary School, Alathiyur, Ariyalur.

Digital Archiving and Preservation: Strategies for managing digital content and preserving cultural heritage.

E-Learning and Online Resources: Leveraging online platforms to provide educational resources and facilitate remote learning.

Information Literacy Instruction: Approaches to teaching patrons and how to evaluate and use information effectively.

Workshops and Skill-building Sessions: Practical workshops were conducted to enhance participants' skills in areas such as data management, digital curation, and utilising library management software.

Valedictory: The valedictory address was delivered by Dr.S.Dhanavandan, Deputy Librarian, CUTN. All the participants were presented with a certificate by Shri.Ashok Kedia, Treasurer, DDGDVC, and gifted with seeds to promote go green campaign.

Recommendations:

Increased Awareness: The seminar raised awareness among participants about the significance of 21st century skills in the library profession and the need to adapt to technological advancements.

Skill Enhancement: Library professionals gained practical insights and tools to enhance their digital literacy, data management, and information curation skills.

Collaboration: The event facilitated networking and collaboration among library professionals, leading to the exchange of ideas and best practices.

Future Directions: To sustain the momentum generated by the seminar, it is recommended that similar events be organized periodically. Additionally, the incorporation of ongoing professional development opportunities focused on 21st century skills should be encouraged.

The State Level Seminar on Enhancing 21st Century Skills for Library Professionals served as a platform for knowledge sharing, skill enhancement, and collaboration among library professionals. By embracing the challenges and opportunities of the digital era, library professionals can continue to play a vital role in serving their communities and advancing the field of information management.

Library Team Development Programme (LTDP) - 15 on 05.08.2023


Programme Objectives:

  • To explore the various techniques on visualisation of library data
  • To explore Excel 2016 for data visualisation

Programme Outcomes:

Understanding of available Excel tool in detail and analysing the data in all the library extent

Report:
Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College Library organized the 15th Library Team Development Programme (LTDP). Library Team Development Programme (LTDP) on the topic “Visualisation of data using Microsoft Excel" presented by Mr.D.Vinod Kumar, IT Analyst, TATA Consultancy Services (TCS), Chennai. on 05.08.2023 at 10.00 am at our Library.

The welcome address was delivered by Ms.J.Sangeetha, Assistant Librarian, DDGD Vaishnav College. Dr.M.Mani, Librarian, introduce the resource person. Dr.S.Santhosh Baboo, Principal, DDGD Vaishnav College, Delivered a Presidential address and honored the resource person. The resource person Mr.D.Vinod Kumar took over the session and gave a detailed lecture on Data using Microsoft Excel. The session concluded with Vote of thanks by Mr.I.Noorul Hasan, LAT DDGD Vaishnav College.
