National Level Online Seminar on "Role of LIS Professionals in Accreditation and Rankings" on 18.07.2026

The Library of Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College (Autonomous), Chennai, successfully organized a National Level Online Seminar on “Role of LIS Professionals in Accreditation and Rankings” on 18 July 2026. The seminar brought together librarians, faculty members, research scholars, students, and information professionals from various institutions across the country to discuss the evolving role of Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals in enhancing institutional quality and academic excellence. 99 (76+23) LIS professionals benefited from the seminar.

The programme commenced with the Inaugural Session, which began with the invocation. Dr. A. Archana, NDLI Club Member, delivered the welcome address, extending a warm welcome to the distinguished guests and participants. The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. S. Santhosh Baboo, Principal, who emphasised the indispensable contribution of libraries in achieving quality benchmarks and fostering a culture of research and innovation. Shri Ashok Kumar Mundhra, Secretary, delivered the felicitation address, highlighting the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and continuous quality improvement. Dr. P. Kannan, Librarian of the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, Gujarat, delivered the Inaugural Address sharing valuable insights into the strategic role of libraries and LIS professionals in accreditation, ranking frameworks, digital transformation, and research support.

Dr. T. Augustine Arul Prasad, Associate Professor of Chemistry and Accreditation Ambassador, DG Vaishnav College (Autonomous), Chennai, conducted a session on “Understanding Basic (Binary) and MBGL Framework and PDV and PEA Ranking Process”. The session provided a comprehensive overview of the NAAC Accreditation Reforms 2025, highlighting the transition from the traditional CGPA-based grading system to the Binary Accreditation Framework (BAF) and the Maturity-Based Graded Levels (MBGL). The resource person explained the AI-powered assessment process, the ten key evaluation attributes, stakeholder validation, eligibility criteria, and the five-level institutional growth framework aligned with NEP 2020. He also discussed the PDV and PEA ranking process, institutional readiness, and the significance of continuous quality enhancement in achieving excellence in accreditation and national rankings. The session enabled participants to gain a clear understanding of the evolving accreditation framework and its implications for higher education institutions.

Dr. K. Mahalakshmi, Assistant Librarian, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore, conducted a session on “LIS Professionals as Quality Assurance Leaders: Navigating the Ranking and Accreditation Landscape”. The session highlighted the strategic role of Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals in enhancing institutional quality and supporting accreditation and ranking frameworks such as NAAC, NIRF, NBA, and ISO. The resource person emphasised the importance of library automation, digital resources, institutional repositories, research support services, information literacy programmes, and quality enhancement initiatives in strengthening institutional performance. She also discussed library quality indicators, best practices, outcome-based approaches, and the significance of systematic documentation, user-centric services, and continuous quality improvement in achieving excellence in accreditation and rankings. The session provided participants with practical insights into transforming academic libraries into key drivers of institutional quality assurance and research excellence.

Dr. K. Ramasamy, College Librarian, M.V. Muthiah Government Arts College for Women, Dindigul, conducted a session on “Case Studies and Best Practices”. The session showcased inspiring case studies from school and college libraries, demonstrating innovative initiatives that have significantly enhanced library services and user engagement. The resource person highlighted best practices such as library automation, digital libraries, library blogs, newsletters, readers’ clubs, institutional repositories, virtual tours, NDLI Club activities, “Ask Your Librarian” services, book exhibitions, information literacy programmes, and community outreach initiatives. Drawing examples from Chikkanna Government Arts College, DDGD Vaishnav College, and several Kendriya Vidyalayas across India, the session illustrated how technology-enabled services, creative learning activities, and user-centric practices contribute to improving library visibility, academic excellence, and institutional accreditation. The session encouraged participants to adopt innovative and sustainable practices to transform libraries into vibrant centres for learning, research, and lifelong knowledge sharing.

Panel Discussion on the theme “Empowering LIS Professionals in Rankings & Accreditation.”  Dr. J. Arumugam, Librarian, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, acted as a moderator who steered an insightful discussion on the evolving role of library professionals in enhancing institutional quality and accreditation outcomes. The panel featured distinguished experts, including Dr. L. Radha, Librarian (Senior Scale), Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai; Mr. Sanmati Jinendran Jain, Assistant Librarian, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli; Mr. S. Sreekumar, Assistant Librarian, Indira Gandhi Memorial Library, University of Hyderabad, Telangana; and Mr. S. Selva Kumar, Assistant Librarian, Integrated Law Course Library, University of Delhi. The panellists shared their professional experiences, best practices, and innovative strategies for strengthening library services, supporting research, and contributing effectively to institutional accreditation and ranking processes. The interactive discussion was followed by a lively question-and-answer session, providing participants with valuable practical insights and opportunities for professional learning.

The seminar concluded successfully with active participation and interaction throughout the sessions, reaffirming the vital role of LIS professionals in strengthening institutional quality, research excellence, and accreditation outcomes. The Valedictory Session marked the successful conclusion of the National Level Online Seminar. The session commenced with a warm Welcome Address by Mr. I. Noorul Hasan, Assistant Librarian, who expressed his appreciation to the resource persons, participants, organizing committee, and institutional management for their wholehearted support and active participation throughout the seminar. The Valedictory Address was delivered by Dr. Kotrayya Agadi, Librarian, Central University of Rajasthan, Ajmer, who emphasised the vital role of Library and Information Science professionals in fostering academic excellence, research, and quality enhancement through continuous learning and innovation. He encouraged librarians to embrace emerging technologies and actively contribute to institutional accreditation and ranking initiatives. The programme concluded with Dr. M. Mani, Librarian, proposing the Vote of Thanks, who gratefully acknowledged the contributions of the management, chief guest, speakers, organizing team, and participants for making the seminar a grand success. The session ended with the National Anthem, bringing the event to a fitting close.
