Introduction:
The
State Level Seminar on “Enhancing 21st Century
Skills for Library Professionals” was held on 17.08.2023 at 9.00 am. The event
aimed to provide insights and strategies for library professionals to adapt and
thrive in the rapidly evolving digital landscape, equipping them with the
necessary skills to effectively serve their patrons and institutions.
Key
Objectives:
The
seminar focused on the following key objectives:
- Recognizing the importance of 21st century skills in the library profession.
- Understanding the impact of technology on libraries and information management.
- Exploring strategies to enhance digital literacy and information literacy among library users.
- Promoting collaboration and networking among library professionals to share best practices.
Sessions
and Highlights:
Inaugural Address: The seminar commenced with a special address by
Dr.S.Santhosh Baboo, Principal and inaugural address by Dr.V.Chandrakumar,
Professor and Head, Department of Library and Information Science, University
of Mdaras, Chennai, emphasising the need for continuous learning and upskilling
in the library profession to meet the demands of the digital age.
Keynote Presentation: Dr.Prabha Rajagopalan delivered an insightful
presentation on the role of 21st century skills in transforming library
services. She discussed the importance of adaptability, critical thinking, and
technological proficiency for modern librarians.

information effectively.
Workshops and Skill-building Sessions: Practical workshops were conducted to
enhance participants' skills in areas such as data management, digital
curation, and utilising library management software.
Recommendations:
Increased Awareness: The seminar raised awareness among participants about the
significance of 21st century skills in the library profession and the need to
adapt to technological advancements.
Skill Enhancement: Library professionals gained practical insights and tools to
enhance their digital literacy, data management, and information curation
skills.
Collaboration: The event facilitated networking and collaboration among library

Future Directions: To sustain the momentum generated by the seminar, it is
recommended that similar events be organized periodically. Additionally, the
