Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College Library organised a National Seminar on “Application of 21st Century Skills for Enhanced Library Governance” on 19.09.2024.  The Seminar was aimed undergoing rapid transformation, necessitating a shift towards modern governance strategies. This seminar focuses on integrating 21st century skills into library management to meet contemporary challenges and enhance service quality. The aim is to bridge the gap between traditional library practices and the evolving demand of the digital era. By addressing the changing role of libraries and the required skill sets, the seminar aims to equip professionals with the tools needed to navigate this new landscape effectively. 69 (50+19) Library professionals from all over India participated in the sessions.

Dr.S.Santhosh Baboo, Principal, DDGD Vaishnav College, Chennai delivered the presidential address. Shri Ashok Kumar Mundhra, Secretary, DDGD Vaishnav College, Chennai gave the felicitation address. The Inaugural address was delivered by Dr.C.Jayakumar, Former Librarian Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR), Uttarakhand, India. Mr.I.Noorul Hasan, Assistant Librarian, DDGDVC welcomed the gathering. Principal and Secretary Honored the Resource persons and speakers. The first registered participant and first arrived participant was honoured with the gift.     The session started with the Introduction of the resources persons Dr.K.Ramasamy, College Librarian, M.V.Muthiah Governement Arts College for Women, Dindigul by Ms.D.Abirami, Assistant Librarian, DDGDVC and Dr.T.Augustine Arul Prasad, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, IQAC Co-Coordinator, DDGD Vaishnav College was Introduced by Ms.J.Sangeetha, Assistant Librarian, DDGDVC. Mr.Amirth Krishnan, II MA English, DDGDVC, was at the Master of Ceremony desk. The session was started with the participants introduction and then it was handed over to Resource Person Dr.K.Ramasamy.

Sessions I & II: “Utilizing Free Online Tools for Building Virtual Library Spaces” and “Embracing the Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) Frontier for future Libraries” by Dr.K.Ramasamy, He shared his knowledge on the various free online tools to the library science professionals which they can use in developing their libraries and enhance the usage of the resources effectively and efficiently. Dr.K.Ramasamy explained on how to find out authenticity of the free online tools.

The post lunch session began with an activity of creating innovative butterfly designs. The butterfly stencils were given to the participants and were asked to shade them by using tools which are available in their hand and the best designed butterfly participant was awarded. A group photo session was also organised.

Sessions III & IV: “Innovations in 21st Century Libraries” and “Hands on Training in Digital & Data Literacy” was taken by Dr.T.Augustine Arul Prasad, who highlighted the various ICT tools which can be useful for the library professionals. He also gave an insight to the emerging technologies that can be useful for sharing information and to reach the Library users. A hands on training session on the AI tools was given at the Digital Learning Centre, DDGDVC Library.

Session on Insightful Experience: This session participants were asked to share their benchmark practices followed in their library and also real life experiences. Different experiences were shared which was very useful to the participants, on gaining rich experiences and also they had a great takeaway experience. It was an innovative and beneficial experience for all the participants.

The programme ended with the valedictory function. Ms.C.Premakumari, Assistant Librarian, DDGDVC, delivered the welcome address. Dr.K.Saravanan, Deputy Librarian, Anna University, Chennai delivered the valedictory address. Keynote address delivered by Dr.T.Umapathy, Assistant Professor, PG & Research Department of Economics, DDGDVC. The session ended with the feedback and distribution of certificates to the participants. The seeds and organic pest control powder prepared by the DDGDVC Library (In House) were distributed to the participants to create awareness of tree plantation and protecting books from pest. Dr.M.Mani, Librarian, DDGD Vaishnav College proposed the Vote of Thanks.
