Workshop on “Mastering the Art of Research and Scientific Writing” on 09.08.2024

Objective:
  • The objective of this workshop is to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge required to write high quality research papers and scientific articles.
  • Participants will learn how to effectively communicate their research findings, structure their manuscripts, and adhere to academic and scientific standards.
  • The workshop will also cover the use of appropriate language, the importance of clarity and precision, and the ethical considerations in scientific writing.

 Outcome:
  • To understand the key components of a research paper, including the abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion, and references.
  • To develop a clear and concise writing style suitable for scientific communication.
  • To utilise various tools and resources for literature review, citation, and manuscript preparation.
  • To apply proper formatting and structuring techniques to enhance the readability and impact of their research papers.
  • To recognise and avoid common pitfalls in scientific writing, such as plagiarism, data misrepresentation, and inadequate referencing.
  • To prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, including responding to reviewers' comments and revising submissions.

Report:
Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College Library conducted a Workshop on “Mastering the Art of Research and Scientific Writing” on 09.08.2024 at 10.00 am in the seminar hall-II. The workshop was attended by 70 participants. Welcome Address was given by Mr.M.Vigneshwaran, Library Assistant. Presidential address delivered by Dr.S.Santhosh Baboo, Principal, DDGD Vaishnav College. Dr.P.Vidya, Assistant Professor and Head, PG & Research Department of Microbiology delivered the keynote address. Shri.Ashok Kumar Mundhra, Secretary honoured the Resource Person Dr.J.Arumugam, Librarian, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. Dr.M.Mani, Librarian Introduced the Resource Person. The session began with an introduction to research and components of manuscript writing, strategies to adapt while drafting the articles for the journals as well as conference papers. The session also highlights various artificial intelligence tools for content generation, collecting review of literature, data collection, analysis and reference management. This session also explains various aspect about submitting articles for reputed journals, publishers and avoiding predatory journals for their publications. The students came up with creative solutions to the open-ended questions deliberated during the session. The workshop concluded with a prize distribution, and a feedback session. The vote of thanks was rendered by Mr.I.Noorul Hasan, Assistant Librarian, Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College.
